Buying the right battery for your car
Although they all perform the same function, not all batteries are created equal.
The best battery to choose will depend on a number of things:
- Your car’s make and model
- Is it a Hybrid/ Electric / Petrol or Diesel
- The size and shape of the existing battery
- The location of the positive and negative terminals
- The ability of the battery to perform in certain weather conditions
Air conditioning, lights, entertainment systems, USB charging connections, airbags, sensors, and many more things are all powered by modern vehicle batteries. You could need a cutting-edge car battery, such as an Advanced Flooded Battery (AFB) or an Absorbent Glass Mat, if your vehicle has start/stop and other modern capabilities (AGM).
You can get advice from our skilled installers on the kind of battery your car needs.
This depends on all the factors above, but good quality batteries start around £150. For a few deluxe and unusual vehicles, they can be £350 plus.
The most common types of batteries are:
Lead acid batteries – These are relatively cheap to replace and usually guaranteed for 4 years (or around 20,000 starts).
Calcium batteries – These are more durable and have about 28% more starting power. They should last for 37,000 starts.
Silver/Calcium batteries – These are pricier, but they deliver 40% more power and are guaranteed for longer. They should last for 60,000 starts.
